The clock is ticking! The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland has announced that the MRCPI Written exam booking window officially opens on 3 December 2025. Candidates aspiring to become medical practitioners in Ireland can start submitting their online applications for the MRCPI OBG Part 2 written exam scheduled for 5 March 2026. The booking window is expected to close on 14 January 2026. In this blog, we will have a detailed discussion of the exam booking process.

Step-by-Step Guide to the MRCPI OBG Booking Process

Now, let’s take a look at how you can book the MRCPI OBG exam:

  1. Step 1: To create an account on the RCPI website, provide the following details: your email ID, verification code sent to your email, the provided CAPTCHA, and a new password for your account.
  2. Step 2: Once you have created your account, you have to provide some of your personal details, including the title you hold, your First name, Middle name, Surname, country of residence, Gender, date of birth, and phone number. (Your name should match your primary medical degree.)
  3. Step 3: Before booking the exam, please verify that you are eligible to attend it. To be eligible, you have to qualify for one of the following:
  • MRCOG Part 1 (exemption from MRCOG Part 1 is not accepted)
  • RCPI Professional Diploma in OBG (only awarded from 2022 onwards)
  • MRCPI Part 1 (General Medicine or Paediatrics) obtained within the last six years.
  • MRACOG (Australia)
  • MRNZCOG (New Zealand)
  • FCOG (SA)
  • FCPS (O and G) (Pakistan)
  • MRANZCOG
  • MMed (O and G) (Malaysia)-2008 onwards only
  • Ensure you have completed 18 months of post-registration training in recognised posts (with nine months Obstetrics and 9 months in Gynaecology)
  • Ensure you have not exceeded six attempts.
  1. Step 4: You must submit essential documents, including an attested primary medical degree, Part 1 or equivalent qualification, and a testimonial form. (Doctors cannot attest to your primary medical degree. It should be attested by the issuing university, the Irish police force, a lawyer, or your embassy or High Commissioner.)
  2. Step 5: Once you have submitted all the required documents, the RCPI will verify them and send an email with a payment link for the exam. Make the payment and confirm your exam centre.

MRCPI OBG Part 2 Written Exam Structure

Now that you have booked your exam, let’s familiarise ourselves with the exam structure before you attend.

The mode of the examination is a computer-based written test, lasting three hours. There is only one paper that includes 100 SBAs in BOF format. The exam is officially conducted twice a year, once in March and once in September, and the marking system does not include negative marking.
