The MRCPI in OBG is an internationally recognised postgraduate qualification offered by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Holding this membership shows healthcare employers worldwide that you possess advanced knowledge in the field of OBG. However, you need to clear a set of rigorous examinations conducted by the RCPI to achieve this title.

MRCPI OBG Part 2 Written is the first step in the journey towards becoming a proud member of the RCPI. But, to be eligible to sit for the examination, you must hold the RCPI Professional Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or another recognised qualification which meets the entry requirements of RCPI.

The next step: MRCPI OBG Part 2 OSCE/Clinical

 Passing the written exam means that you are now eligible to take the MRCPI OBG Part 2 OSCE. This is the final hurdle you need to clear to achieve the RCPI membership. Unlike the first exam, this step assesses your practical skills, communication, and clinical decision-making skills.

What to expect in the OSCE? 

In simple terms, this stage is where you prove that you can apply your knowledge in real world situations. In this part, there will be two components: the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and the Clinical exam. The OSCE part consists of seven 10-minute stations. In addition, there will be at least one rest station, which provides a short break and time to prepare for the next station.

During the clinical exam, you will face one long case in either obstetrics or gynaecology. It will take 25 minutes and will be conducted under the supervision of two examiners. There will be one patient or role player and you have to take a comprehensive history, perform a clinical examination, and then discuss your findings with the examiners.
