The examination is scheduled for 6 & 7 November 2026, so candidates should plan their preparation early. In this blog, we’ll cover the examination format, important dates and locations, the MRCPI OBG Part 2 OSCE booking process, and how StudyMRCPI can help you prepare for the exam with confidence.

Understanding the MRCPI OBG Part 2 OSCE

The MRCPI OBG Part 2 Clinical/OSCE examination assesses far more than theoretical knowledge. It evaluates your ability to apply clinical reasoning, communicate effectively, solve problems, investigate and diagnose clinical scenarios, and demonstrate safe management in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Successfully achieving the MRCPI in Obstetrics and Gynaecology is an important step towards higher speciality training and ultimately a rewarding career in hospital medicine.

The MRCPI OBG 2 OSCE consists of two components:

Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)

The OSCE includes:

  • Seven 10-minute stations
  • At least one rest station between circuits
  • Assessment of communication, counselling, procedural skills, interpretation, and clinical decision-making

The rest station provides candidates with a short opportunity to regroup and prepare for the following station.

Clinical Examination

The clinical component is a 25-minute simulated clinical assessment conducted under direct observation by two examiners.

During this station, candidates are expected to:

  • Take an appropriate clinical history
  • Perform a focused examination using simulation models
  • Discuss diagnosis, investigations, and management
  • Demonstrate clinical reasoning and communication skills

Unlike traditional bedside examinations, this component is fully simulated and does not involve real patient interaction. Instead, candidates work with model equipment and may interact with trained role players in either obstetrics or gynaecology scenarios.
