The results for the MRCPI Obstetrics and Gynaecology Part II Written September 2026 exam were published. You’ve probably been checking your e-mail repeatedly, as have countless others, eagerly awaiting the results. Whether you received good or bad news, the next question that is undoubtedly on your mind is, what happens next?
The answer to this question will certainly vary depending on your individual result. Whatever the results. Remember that success is waiting for you. You should take the next step in your plan and continue on your journey to the prestigious RCPI membership.
If you passed: start thinking about the OSCE/Clinical exam
Passing the Written Exam is an amazing achievement, and well done to you. However, your journey to the award of the MRCPI is not completed, and you must now prepare for the Part II OSCE/Clinical exam. The purpose of this exam is to assess your knowledge and skills in a clinical environment. The exam contains 7 OSCE stations, and an additional simulated long clinical case, which lasts for a total of 90 minutes.
The first step in your preparation should be to identify the next available exam date, which is generally published by the RCPI on your exam application form. The applications for MRCPI OBG Part 2 OSCE/Clinical exams in November 2026 in Dublin and Riyadh are closed, and therefore, passing the September 2026 written exam does not guarantee you a spot to take the exams in either of these sessions. For you, the next available exam dates are listed below:
Note: You are allowed a three year period to sit the OSCE/Clinical exam from the time you passed the Written exam. However, the earlier you take the exam,the better it is.
Start preparing for the change from finding answers to clinical discussions.
There are a few key differences between the OSCE/Clinical and the written exams. In the written exam, the correct answer to a given clinical situation was sought. In the OSCE/Clinical exam, you are assessed on your interaction with a patient, and/or your ability to discuss and/or explain a given clinical situation. Understanding a given clinical practice guideline is as important as communicating your rationale to a patient.
Consider situations which you regularly encounter in obstetrics and gynecology. Understand how to take a focused history, and provide a pertinent presentation and assessment. Understand how to derive an appropriate differential diagnosis and management. Practice to conduct consultation in an effective manner during the examination, explaining sensitive or complicated issues to the patient with empathy.
You should be able to identify your weaknesses and improve on them. It might be difficult to expect to improve on your weaknesses in the time you have between clinical commitments. Use the RCPI curriculum and exam format to plan your studies. It is always better to rely on a trusted preparatory course for the same.

It is completely natural to feel broken , if you do not achieve the desired result. The feeling could be particularly hard if you prepared for the exam while also undertaking clinical duties. We understand.
Take a break from the situation and then analyze the feedback. Which elements of the exam were most difficult for you? Did you have sufficient time to consider all of the elements of the case? Were you able to answer the case elements, but chose the wrong answer?Modify your preparation and practice accordingly.
